Station XI – Jesus Is Nailed to the Cross
Artist – Ellie Goodman – Photograph Montage

There are many Christians who still only see Jesus nailed to the cross. While they probably embrace His Resurrection, many miss His teaching and examples. Yes, Jesus died for us but do we carry on His work in today’s world? Do we reflect and act upon the reason for this extreme sacrifice in how we treat other people, other countries, other cultures, other colors? Do we extend our hand to the marginalized, the homeless, the hungry? Do we share God’s love to the unlovable, the unbalanced, the unchurched? Is God’s will manifest in our lives today.

When I ponder this, I think about the people who have exemplified God’s love, who acted upon their heartfelt convictions; people like Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Mahatma m Gandhi, Bishop Tutu, Corrie Ten Boom, the Dalai Lama and Rosa Parks among others. The blood emanating from Jesus covering these smaller clippings portrays the flow of His ministry to and through them.

I photographed the statue the Jesus on the Cross from a cemetery monument. The rusty nail was added to tie in the theme of the Station as are the nails used to secure the smaller news clippings.
Throughout the project I experienced many emotions from sheer joy to be involved in a project, which couples my faith with my art to intermittent sadness and tears when reflecting about the pain Jesus endured for us.
