Minister of Music & Organist
Serving as Minister of Music at Trinity since January
1984, David has the joyful mission of building together on a rich
heritage of worship music ministry, spiritual depth, and loving
community. All of the opportunities for music ministry
enrich our worship experience.
They help us worship God with new meaning.
There are openings in all of our groups. David invites you to join him as we grow together in our Lord through
music ministry. May God
be praised and glorified through music.
David’s contribution as an artist is unique. He melds the church music ministry and the
concert organist venue. His
recitals, concerts and seminars include programs in California,
Louisiana, Hawaii, Canada and European and Japanese tours of historic
instruments. David’s repertoire is vast and varied, ranging
from Sweelinck and the Baroque masters to many premiere performances
of recent compositions.
David serves as Minister of Music, organist and
composer-in-residence of Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara,
CA. He was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and
moved to southern California at the age of thirteen. He graduated from Azusa Pacific University, where he studied organ
and music composition with Dutch musician, Gerard Faber.
David pursued graduate studies at the School of Church Music
at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned a Master of Music degree at the University
of Hawaii and completed further graduate study in music composition
with Dr. Emma Lou Diemer at the University of California at Santa
Barbara. During the Viet Nam era, David served as organist
and as assistant to the Pacific Fleet Chaplain in Pearl Harbor.
David’s community service outreach includes organ
encounter demonstrations to school students.
He has served churches in the Santa Barbara community as
organist and choirmaster. He
is currently organist and composer for the Santa Barbara Boys Choir.
David is also dean of the American Guild of Organists, Santa
Barbara chapter and is a founder and former president of the board
of the Santa Barbara Oratorio Chorale.
