Trinity Church Banner Announcement

Dear Trinity -

More than a year ago, parishioner, vestry member, and artist Lucy Bell, approached Sarah Thomas and me with an idea about updating the banners that grace our sanctuary. And not only did Lucy have an idea, but also the outline of a plan, designed to involve as many Trinity parishioners as possible in the banners' design and creation, and to make sure that those designs reflected Trinity's mission and values. Over the past several months, Lucy has worked with both the Buildings and Grounds Committee and the Vestry to flesh out the project plan and organize a series of informational and creative events, which you'll learn more about below.

Please take a moment to read Lucy's introduction to this project, along with their project proposal, to see how you might get involved.

Dear Trinity,

It is with great joy and anticipation that I write to tell you about the inauguration of the Banner Project to fabricate new sanctuary banners. After many conversations, and with the approval and support of Trinity's Vestry, this year-long workshop-filled refresh begins October 19th with a screening of the documentary film Alleluia, which follows the work of Sister Corita Kent (more details below). Who am I? My name is Lucy Bell, I regularly attend the 8am service, am involved in various ministries of Trinity including being a member of the Vestry and am an artist here in town working at the Art, Design, and Architecture Museum at UCSB. Oversight of this project rests with the curatorial committee, which includes me, Casey Caldwell, Dane Goodman, Rev. Anne Howard, and Georgia Noble with support from Trinity's rector and associate rector, Elizabeth and Sarah.

But this project is incomplete without all of you! Please join in contributing your ideas, efforts, and creativity to the sanctuary by attending the monthly workshops designed to include and involve adults, as well as the Children and Youth. More information about the October events are below. To get an idea of the scope and vision of this project, read more about the Banner Project proposal here. If you have questions, please contact me, or any member of the curatorial committee.

Warmly,

Lucy Bell
